- ADAS
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems that support functions such as braking, lane control, parking, and driver awareness.
- AIS
- Automotive Industry Standards used for vehicle and component requirements in India.
- APDP
- Automotive Product Development Process: the controlled lifecycle from market opportunity through development, production, and field improvement.
- APQP
- Advanced Product Quality Planning, a structured method for planning product and process quality across development and launch.
- Architecture freeze
- Approval of the major vehicle layout, domains, system interfaces, and performance direction for detailed engineering.
- BOM
- Bill of Materials: the controlled list of parts, quantities, revisions, and relationships required to build a product.
- CAE
- Computer-Aided Engineering, including structural, thermal, crash, fluid, durability, NVH, and electromagnetic simulation.
- CAPA
- Corrective and Preventive Action used to contain a problem, remove its cause, verify effectiveness, and prevent recurrence.
- CMVR
- Central Motor Vehicles Rules governing vehicle-related requirements in India.
- Concept freeze
- Management approval of the preferred product concept, business direction, and feasibility basis.
- Control plan
- A production document defining controlled characteristics, checks, methods, frequency, ownership, records, and reaction plans.
- COP
- Conformity of Production: evidence that series-built vehicles continue to conform to the approved type.
- DFMEA
- Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis, used to identify design risks and plan prevention or detection controls.
- DV
- Design Validation: testing that confirms the engineering design meets defined technical requirements.
- DVP&R
- Design Verification Plan and Report, the controlled record of requirements, tests, acceptance criteria, results, and status.

- ECU
- Electronic Control Unit that monitors inputs, executes software logic, and controls vehicle functions.
- EOL test
- End-of-Line test performed near the end of production to verify functional, electrical, diagnostic, safety, or performance requirements.
- EMC
- Electromagnetic Compatibility: the ability of equipment to operate correctly without causing or suffering unacceptable electromagnetic interference.
- EMI
- Electromagnetic Interference that can disrupt electrical or electronic functions.
- FTR
- First Time Right: the share of units or processes completed correctly without repair, rework, or repeat activity.
- Gate review
- A formal evidence-based decision point used to approve, hold, redirect, or stop a development phase.
- GD&T
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, a symbolic system for controlling part geometry and assembly function.
- Homologation
- The process of demonstrating compliance and obtaining regulatory approval for a vehicle or component in a target market.

- Industrialization
- The conversion of an approved design into capable production processes, equipment, controls, suppliers, logistics, and trained operations.
- KPI
- Key Performance Indicator used to track quality, cost, delivery, safety, productivity, compliance, or customer outcomes.
- MES
- Manufacturing Execution System used to control, record, and trace production operations.
- NVH
- Noise, Vibration, and Harshness: the measurable and perceived refinement behavior of a vehicle.
- OBD
- On-Board Diagnostics used to monitor system performance, store faults, and support compliance and service.
- OEE
- Overall Equipment Effectiveness, commonly calculated from availability, performance, and quality.
- OTA
- Over-the-Air delivery of vehicle software, calibration, configuration, or related digital content.
- PFMEA
- Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis used to identify manufacturing risks and define process controls.
- Pilot build
- A limited production-intent build used to validate the product, process, equipment, quality system, material flow, and workforce.
- PPAP
- Production Part Approval Process used to show that a supplier understands requirements and can repeatedly produce conforming parts.
- PPM
- Parts Per Million, a normalized measure often used to report defect or claim rates.
- Pre-SOP
- The final readiness phase before Start of Production, focused on stable processes, closed issues, and management approval.
- PV
- Product Validation: testing of production-intent vehicles under customer-representative and real-world conditions.
Q–Z
- RCA
- Root Cause Analysis used to identify the underlying mechanism or system condition that created a problem.
- Road load data
- Measured forces, motions, temperatures, vibration, and usage conditions used to reproduce customer operation in analysis or testing.
- SOP
- Start of Production: the formal release to begin serial manufacturing and customer supply.
- System interface
- A defined mechanical, electrical, thermal, software, control, data, or physical relationship between systems.
- Type approval
- Official confirmation that a defined vehicle or component type complies with applicable regulatory requirements.
- VOC
- Voice of Customer: structured capture and translation of customer needs, expectations, pain points, and preferences.
- WVSCoP
- Whole Vehicle Safety Conformity of Production, focused on continued conformity with approved whole-vehicle safety requirements.
